Anita Saarkessian
Anita Sarkeesian is a Canadian-American feminist media critic as well as a public speaker. She founded Feminist Frequency a website that hosts videos and commentary analyzing the representation of women in pop media. Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian-American media critic and blog writer who has won prizes for her work, is an activist blogger. She is the author and director-general of Feminist Frequency which is an education not-for-profit website that explores representations of women within popular media narratives. In addition, she works to highlight the problems surrounding the harassment and targeted assaults on women and other minorities in online spaces she is committed to breaking the stereotypes in the popular culture. Sarkeesian also holds a York University master's in social philosophy, political and philosophical thinking. Apart from being a popular public speaker, she has given speeches at the TEDxWomen XOXO Conference and United Nations Broadband Working Group. While a student at university she became fascinated by the issue of gender equality and the rights of women at an early stage. As of 2009, this determined young woman was targeted on the internet for her website featuring a series about gender and videogames. But the harassment did not hinder her. The experience only strengthened her in her role as a feminist journalist. Her numerous contributions to the field of feminist are recognized with numerous prizes. Anita Sarkeesian, a media journalist who has received many awards, and also founded Feminist Frequency, an educational nonprofit that studies the ways women are depicted within popular culture narratives.
