
Julie London (nee Peck, September 26, 1926 - October 18th 20th, 2000) is an American actor and singer. Her career spans over 40 years. London is a torch singer loved for her soft, mellow vocals and languid contralto voice, recorded more than thirty albums of standards and jazz between 1955 and 1969. Inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame was her performance of "Cry Me a River" which she first performed on her debut album. In addition to receiving a recording, London was nominated for an award called a Golden Globe Award in 1974 for her performance as nurse Dixie McCall in the television series Emergency!. London was born in Santa Rosa, California to vaudevillian parents. Her acting career in Los Angeles as an actress. London's 35-year acting career started in film in 1944, and included roles as the female lead in a variety of westerns. She co-starred with Rock Hudson in The Fat Man (1951) and with Robert Taylor and John Cassavetes in Saddle the Wind (1958) along with Gary Cooper in Man of the West (1958) and together with Robert Mitchum in The Wonderful Country (1959). In the mid-1950s, she signed a recording contract with Liberty Records, marking the beginning of her professional music career. Her final album of studio recordings in 1969, however, she continued to be a hit in the role of a female nurse Dixie McCall in the television series Emergency! (1972-1979) during which she was a co-star along with Bobby Troup. The show was created by her former husband Jack Webb.
